Dunewalk (Illustrated Poem)

Sol Luckman

Turn off the road
Traverse the boisterous schoolyard
Feel the tingle of November sand underfoot
While ascending and descending
The wild sea dunes

Art Prints

Tiptoe across the spindly grasses
Pluck a star-shaped spur
From a wounded toe
Leaning and careening
Under a lichened bough

Photography Prints

Approach the high-tide line
Where the sand stops flaking
And starts fiercely clinging
Where the tides fill the ears
And come alive in the blood

Photography Prints

Wind through hunks of driftwood
Half buried half burned
By the flames of unknown fires
Corrugated like beached elephants
With only their memories intact

Art Prints

Now meet the surf with your question
Whatever it may be
Ask for an unmistakable sign
As the foam wraps your ankles
With reconnection’s cold electricity

Art Prints

Any sign from the deep
Be it a starfish unblemished
Or a sea lion unflinching
Is an invitation to embrace possibility
And ride life’s waves
